In a terse response, Rahul Gandhi's office has shot off a letter to the
Janata Party president, terming his allegations "as utterly false,
baseless and defamatory."
Terming Swamy's accusations as "scandalous abuse" and "defamatory" Gandhi has also questioned Swamy's motivations , "His action of calling a press conference is a motivated attempt for reasons which one can easily discern".
"They shall pursue all proceedings that are available in law to ensure that an individual and an organisation like yours do not abuse the freedom to speak and write in utter violation of the equally important need in a civilised society to maintain the dignity of individuals and organisations and to abide by the law of the country."
Swamy claimed that the mother-son duo held 76 per cent shares in Young Indian Pvt Ltd, which took over Associated Journal Publisher of the National Herald group. Alleged that Rahul did not mention his shares in his nomination paper filed before the Election Commission of India (ECI) ahead of the 2009 Lok Sabha polls. The Congress general secretary wrote "nil" in the column where he was supposed to mention his shares and debentures in the nomination paper.
Swamy alleged that a Passport Seva Kendra was opened on two floors of the building even as then external affairs minister S.M. Krishna inaugurated the office. The huge amount was being collected by Young Indian as rent for the Passport Seva Kendra.
They questioned how Young Indian's general body meeting (GBM) was conducted at Sonia Gandhi's government residence, alleging that it was illegal to have business meetings on such premises because the company was earning money from it.
Swamy said he has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the ECI complaining about the alleged wrongdoings by the mother-son duo of Congress top brass. He said he was confident that the prime minister would not even acknowledge receiving the letter, so he would move court against it sometime in December.
