Salman – Shah Rukh all set to become neighbours?
Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan – whose tales of rivalry are not new to anyone – are all set to become neighbours.
However, his room has now become too small to accommodate his dogs and other things, thereby forcing him to look for a new place to stay – with his family.
According to the rumour mill, this down-to-earth actor’s new home is very close to Shah Rukh’s residence - Mannat in Bandra Bandstand, Mumbai.
“For over two decades, Salman bhai has lived in a one-bedroom flat in Galaxy Apartments. But now with his many dogs and other things, the space appears too small for him. He is most likely to move into Sagar Resham, which is just two buildings away from Mannat,”.
“Salman has even come to our building on more than a couple of occasions to check out the place.
Bollywood's year-end bonanza
Now that Yash Chopra's love saga featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif is out, it is time to train your eyes on what Bollywood has to offer before the end of the year.
Talaash: The first to enter theatres on November 30 will be 'Talaash', Aamir Khan's first big release after almost three years. Directed by Reema Kagti, the film also features Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherji. Produced by the Akhtars - the trailers of 'Talaash' have a good buzz going for it.
Khiladi 786: After the dud 'Joker', Akshay Kumar hopes to repeat the success of 'Rowdy Rathore' with 'Khiladi 786'. Co-produced by Himesh Reshammiya and Akshay himself, Khiladi 786 is clearly aimed at the masses and hoping to cash in on the Khiladi franchise. Directed by debutant Ashish Mohan, Khiladi 786 features Asin as the leading lady and releases on December 7, no doubt this Akshay starrer will face tough competition from 'Talaash'.
Dabangg 2: And last but not the least, this year's Christmas release will see Chulbul Pandey return in the sequel to Dabangg. While Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha do a repeat performance in Dabangg 2, Prakash Raj steps into play the baddie in this one. Directed and produced by brother Arbaaz Khan, expectations are obviously running high from this sequel. Don't forget to look out for Kareena Kapoor who has done a special item song a la 'Munni Badnaam' this time round.
Kajal Aggarwal tops the popularity list
A recent survey proved the actress's popularity, by rating her among the Top 5 most liked actors in Bollywood. Conducted by Facebook, the survey saw the actress overtaking Shahrukh and Salman Khan, who where ranked in position 10 and 6 respectively, while Anushka Sharma and Priyanka Chopra ranked 16 and 21 respectively.
Her latest release in Tamil, Mattrraan, opposite actor Suriya, has been appreciated well by the audience. The actress is working on her upcoming project with Akshay, Chabbis. She also has many Telugu projects in hand.

The makers of Talaash have asked single screen owners to allow an uninterrupted two-week run to their film, which in turn will affect Akshay's Khiladi 786
The Diwali battle between the makers of Son Of Sardar and Jab Tak Hai Jaan is hardly over, and a new set of filmmakers have already drawn out their swords. Mirror has learnt that the producers of Aamir Khan starrer Talaash, Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar have asked single screen exhibitors to allow a two-week run for their venture that releases on November 30. This will affect Akshay Kumar's Khiladi 786 that hits the theatres a week later. According to a trade source, exhibitors aren't too pleased with the constant war between filmmakers over screening space. "First YRF asked single screen owners to give their Diwali release starring Shah Rukh Khan as many screens as Salman Khan's Ek Tha Tiger. This put a lot of pressure on most exhibitors since Ek Tha Tiger was a single big Eid release and on Diwali there were two big films. And now, the makers of Talaash are asking for a continuous two-week run. Ideally, most theatre owners would like to decide on the film's second week run after assessing the response in the first week.
When contacted, trade analyst Amod Mehra opined, "YRF started this trend. Hereafter no big film will be assured of a decent release. This sparks off a very unhealthy trend in the industry."
Distributor Ramesh Sippy however, chose to differ. According to him there is nothing wrong with Talaash producers asking exhibitors for a two-week uninterrupted run. "Business is never healthy. Also, it is not necessary that a two-week run is implied to essentially kill the next big movie-in-line. The idea could be to let the distributor have the upper hand. Else, sometimes the exhibitors are rather merciless.

Sippy, who also runs the Chitra Cinema in Dadar added, They have not decided on Talaash yet. They might decide when the time comes." Mehra however believes that it will be rather tough for single screen owners to reject Talaash's offer. "Who doesn't want to screen a Aamir Khan film?.
In the meanwhile, the battle between Ajay Devgn's SOS and SRK's film is far from over. After the Competition Commission of India rejected the complaint filed by the makers of SOS alleging YRF of anti-competitive practices, Devgn has now made an appeal to the Competition Appellate Tribunal. The tribunal has ordered an enquiry into the matter with less than a week left before the films hit the theatres.

Rekha to judge dance show Nach Baliye?
Following the footsteps of Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit, the eternal diva Rekha too might soon make her foray into television. The actor has been approached to judge Star Plus’s upcoming dance reality show, Nach Baliye.
So having Rekha on the panel will take the show to a new level. Industry sources claim that Rekha was earlier approached for Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and some other shows, but always politely declined. However, the chances of her agreeing to be part of Nach Baliye are stronger. Years ago, Amitabh Bachchan had started his TV career with Star Plus when it wasn’t cool for film stars to be on TV. But the channel had managed to convince him to come onboard.
Sources claim the channel will convince Rekha as well, who will be the biggest star on the show, unlike in Jhalak, where she would have had to share the limelight with Madhuri Dixit. Her love for dance is another reason that she might agree to do the show, apart from the whopping amount she might be given to sweeten the pot. When contacted, the channel spokesperson replied, “It’s too early to talk about the show.”
Others in contentionDirector Farhan Akhtar and the recently-married Riteish and Genelia Deshmukh have also been approached to judge the show. Farhan was a part of the show in the first season (2005) and was very popular on the tube. Choreographer Ganesh Acharya too is in talks for the show, which is supposed to launch in December.

Several of the films listed have not yet had their required Los Angeles qualifying runs.
Movie Review: Aiyyaa
The Deshpandes are no ordinary brood. And Aiyyaa is no ordinary film. Wildly wakda (read twisted) in more ways than one, it is a film that defies definition.
It careens from the dreamy to the delirious, the realistic to the raucous, and the perfectly logical to the utterly nonsensical as it turns many a time-honoured convention of Hindi commercial cinema on its head.

Many might find its loud, outré storytelling style somewhat difficult to comprehend and digest, especially in the context of the film’s slice-of-life love story predicated on a willing suspension of disbelief.
Aiyyaa, Sachin Kundalkar’s first Hindi film on the back of three critically applauded Marathi-language features, revels in flying against expectations with complete abandon.
It falls back on principles of the theatre of the absurd as well as the norms of the tamasha folk form to comment on the skewed dynamics of arranged matrimony and the politics of gender equations viewed exclusively from the distaff side.
Despite mounting societal pressures on her, it is the
mulgi who calls the shots. She follows her heart – and nose – all the
way through to try and get the man she wants.
Aiyyaa blends a dash of magic realism, liberal dollops of wacky humour, broad burlesque sweeps, robust social satire and a mélange of elaborately staged coital dance routines, all brought together by a delightfully freewheeling imagination.
Not all of it works though. In fact, portions of the film go askew. That makes Aiyyaa a bit of a mixed bag. But Kundalkar gets enough of the madcap tropes right to ensure that his film stays on course for the most part.
The most striking aspect of Aiyyaa is that its focus is squarely on the female gaze. The hero is the object of desire and it is the girl who does most of the sniffing, drooling and panting.
Indeed, sniffing plays a key role in this love story. Meenaxi Deshpande (Rani Mukerji) is a plucky middle class Maharashtrian girl who seeks escape from her humdrum life by frequently retreating into a nebulous dreamscape inspired by her favourite Bollywood divas.

Madhuri, Sridevi, Juhi – everybody is fair game
in Meenaxi’s liberating fantasies and she plays a fiercely lone hand in
the often strangely desolate settings that she conjures up in her mind.
In real life, of course, she is hard pressed to get her point across to a family that is completely off its trolley: a chain-smoking dad (Satish Alekar), an overzealous mom (Nirmiti Sawant), a dog-loving bro (Ameya Wagh) who trusts canines more than humans and, last but not the least, a wheelchair-bound grandma (Jyoti Subhash) with a set of golden teeth, shrill vocal chords and a grey head on the ragged, rebellious edge.
Meenaxi is under constant pressure from her parents, particularly her mother, to find a suitable life partner.
Thwarting the steady stream of suitors that come and go talking of chaha and poha, she is attracted by the smell that emanates from the Tamil-speaking art student Surya (Prithviraj) she encounters every day in the college library.
Meenaxi’s love is a one-way street because the tall, dark, handsome and aloof Surya is unaware of her feelings, but she follows him around like a smitten stalker, drawn by the sweet fragrance that surrounds him.

Aiyyaa is an extension of the first episode of Kundalkar’s Gandha (2008), a cinematic triptych of evocative stories that were bound by the theme of smell.
Aiyyaa follows the same narrative trajectory. But it is interspersed with situations involving the fringe characters of the Gandha episode in question, Lagnachya Vayacha Mulgi (A Bride To Be).
Also factored into the Aiyyaa fold is the added layer of the language divide between the hero and the heroine. The latter strives to learn Tamil in order to communicate with the man she is in love with.
But words fail Meenaxi when they matter the most. Musical fantasies with no heaves and thrusts barred come to her aid at such moments.
Among those who get a larger
play is Meenaxi’s maniacal colleague and confidante, Maina (Anita
Date), a Lady Gaga wannabe referred to by one character as Gaga-bai. Maina lusts for John Abraham and her desktop and living room walls are plastered with pictures of the actor in various stages of undress.
We also meet the overly decorous Madhav Rajadhyaksha (Subodh Bhave), the boy Meenaxi’s
family choses for her. His idea of romance is stuck in the discreet Farooque Shaikh-Deepti Naval era.
Madhav briefly transports Meenaxi from the aggressively erotic and miasmic universe of Dreamum wakeupum and Aga bai to the touch-me-not world of Tumko dekha toh yeh khayal aaya.
Amid the cacophonous and the crazy are moments of striking cinematic beauty that emphasize the power of colour, sound and, of course, smell to evoke human emotions.
Rani Mukerji plunges headlong into the character without the slightest hint of inhibition. Prithviraj, with his strong, silent screen presence, provides the perfect foil. Members of the supporting cast, notably Ameya Wagh and Anita Date, turn in performances that stay in line with the all-round air of zaniness.
Aiyyaa
takes time to warm up, slips into dull patches at times and
occasionally teeters on the edge of a certain dissonance. But the
subversive spirit that drives the absurdist core of Aiyyaa is well worth embracing.
Bollywood star Rai becomes UN AIDS ambassador
INDIAN Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been named as an ambassador by the United Nations AIDS agency and will be tasked with raising awareness to prevent HIV among children.
One of Hindi cinema's most famous faces abroad, Rai Bachchan in her new role will be mainly advocating for the Global Plan, launched in June last year and focused on India and 21 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
The scheme aims to eliminate new HIV infections among children by 2015 and keep their mothers alive, partly through improving access for women to HIV prevention and treatment services.
"Spreading awareness on health issues, especially related to women and children, has always been a priority for me," the actress said in a statement from UNAIDS after her appointment as a goodwill ambassador on Monday.
"And now, as a new mother, I can personally relate to this - the joys and concerns of every mother and the hopes that we have for our children. I strongly believe that every baby should be born free from HIV."
Rai Bachchan took the Miss World crown in 1994 and made her debut in Bollywood in the late 1990s.
She has since gone on to star in more than 40 mostly Hindi films as well as a few foreign movies, including The Pink Panther 2.
She married fellow actor Abhishek Bachchan in 2007 and is well-known for her appearances on the red carpet at the Cannes film festival. She had her first child in November last year.
Rani-Kareena together yet away
Rani Mukherji and Kareena Kapoor who share screen space with Aamir Khan haven't shot a single scene together.
But those who are trying to read more than what is meeting the eye well, the script and the story doesn't demand such a scene where the two characters of the film come together. Also, much against hearsay and rumours Rani and Kareena are extremely cordial with each other in real life.
There are scenes and interactions with Aamir's character but their characters have no interactions at all. in fact the entire 45-50 day film schedule there never was a single day when all three of them were required to shoot.
The spokesperson of Talaash confirms "The story is such that the two characters of Rani Mukherji and Kareena Kapoor never come face to face with each other."
